Stripe Me Making a Statement with New York & Co.

Sooooooo, is a Zebra

Black with White Stripes...or...White with Black stripes?

How to take a basic dress and make an AMAZING Outfit!
First, Choose your Foundation or Base-Line Item
This can be jeans or a dress or anything that does not pop out. For example, a pair of black jeans with a black shirt. I am wearing a black and white stripe dress, but this same look could have been accomplished with a black dress or black jeans. The point is that the base-line item is easily able to be converted to something fun and stylish. See a similar striped dress at Old Navy, here and at Torrid, here.
Second, choose a statement piece!
The thing that makes this outfit pop is the details. A sweater covered in zebras is cool but layering it over a black and white striped dress adds that much more interest. The interaction between the black and white of the dress is picked up in the zebra print. New York & Co. got it right with this design. It adds a touch of exotic flare to an otherwise staple wardrobe item. Cardigans are a dime a dozen, but by picking one with a fun print, it can make a basic outfit feel great, while maintaining a level of comfort and warmth. I received tons of compliments when I wore this outfit! And I encourage you to take a chance on a brightly patterned piece!
Third, ACCESSORIZE!
Little details like jewelry and shoes can make a difference in any outfit. Think of accessories as eye candy, or a little something sweet. You don't want to over do it with sweets or you'll ruin your dinner. You want to have just enough to compliment what ever else you have on. Here, I wore a vintage necklace that I got from my grandmother, that feels very Cruella DeVil if you ask me! Along with a pair of black short heels (much more practical for a long day at work), that have just a touch of shine on the back. These heels are from Forever21 and have what looks like a faux rhinestone/jewel on the back of the short heel, giving a more flashy feel, than just plain black heels.

All in all, try mixing it up a bit, don't be afraid to take a chance on a crazy print, or to add a little bit of bling.

Love,

Curvy Queen V
