How to Style Printed Pants
On-Trend with Plus Print Pants
Hello to all my Curvy Ladies!!!
Print pants are one of those trends that seem to stay in style and always seem chic yet fun and playful. They can be found in everything from dress pants appropriate for work to causal capris great for weekend lounging. Many are easy to dress up or down to taste.
Tip 1: Balance your Look
First, balance the printed pants by pairing them with simple pieces, such as a sweater or blouse. Print pants are great but can get overwhelming when worn with over attention-getting pieces. Each outfit should have one attention grabber. When wearing print pants you want that to be the main eye candy. Which is not to say that other fun items can't be worn, but you don't want to have the awesome print to be lost because of a distracting shirt. For example, printed colored shirts are great but, can distract, when in doubt: pair print prints with a white blouse, or a black shirt. There is no way to go wrong here! A black or white top will keep the look simple while allowing attention to be drawn to the print. Wearing a black shirt or white shirts usually presents a cleaner chic look and can even be workwear appropriate.
Tip 2: Layering
For a cleaner look consider laying with a monochrome blazer. When adding a blazer it's important to consider what you're wearing it for. If you're adding a blazer for work, make sure it is clean cut and simple, perhaps its a black blazer over a white shirt, paired with print pants... basically, you don't want to overwhelm your boss with to much color or print. However, some fields allow much more expressive clothing, like those in artist careers, or maybe you're hanging out with friends. Type a brightly colored blazer to liven up your look! For example, check out my, HOT PINK BLAZER from Torrid below.
Tip 3: Layering other Coats...
Try layering with a longer coat. Consider a longer length trench coat or a long loose cardigan when layering. The longer length draws the eye vertically and downward from your top half to the print pants, bringing attention to your SHOW stopping print.
Tip 4: From Chic to Causal
Try the on-trend look of layering a denim or chambray shirt over print pants. Denim and chambray, are very similar to black pants are a good neutral that goes with almost any print. Feel free to button up the shirt, tuck it in or hang loose.
Tip 5: Transitioning to Spring and Summer:
Next, consider the weather! In Spring especially, the temperature can be all over the place, one day warm another chilly. In order to accommodate pair print pants with a bright color tank and some sort of monochrome (single color) coat/jacket, like a trench coat, blazer, (as mentioned above) or leather jacket. To transition, the same look to Summer, remove the jacket and pair the colored tank with sandals.
Tip 6: Add Accessories
Make sure you accessories pick up on whatever color pallet your print pants have. For example, in this casual look, I added a green purse to compliment the leaves the lemon print on my pants display. It brings the focus back to the same color in my shirt, by wearing a shoulder strap purse, it draws the eye from my shoulder down to my hip wear the eye again
Tip 6: For the Brave Only....
Mixed Prints: For the bold, try mixing prints. Layer a printed top over printed pants. In order to avoid overwhelming prints, layer a monochrome blazer/jacket or sweater to tone the look down. Hint on mixing prints, find one color that both pieces have in common to link the prints.
FINAL TIP:
What ever you do, remember to have FUN!!!
